The Team
We are committed to collaborative research and translating our findings into effective interventions that will improve global health.
Patty Grace
Patty Grace is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She received her BS in Chemistry from Mary Baldwin University and her PhD in Pathology form New York University School of Medicine training in T cell mediated immunity to TB under Dr. Joel Ernst. She completed her postdoctoral training under the mentorship of Dr. Galit Alter and Sarah Fortune studying antibody functions in TB between the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard and the Harvard School of Public Health. Beyond her passion for research and supporting her team’s success in the lab, Patty enjoys good food, friends, and rooting against the Celtics!
Jocelyn Martin
Jocelyn is currently earning her Master of Science in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh, where she previously obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology. In the lab, she is applying “systems serology” approaches to understand the link between pre-existing immunity and vaccine-induced immunity in non-human primates and humans. Her work is committed to advancing knowledge in the field TB, helping to define the relationship between humoral immunity and disease outcomes.
Julia Chehab
Julia graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in the spring of 2024, where she studied biology, French, and global health. She spent two years working in the Scanga Lab focusing on humoral immune response to HIV/TB co-infections. She is very excited to dive deeper into all things antibodies with Dr. Grace before enrolling in a PhD program for Immunology in 2026. Outside of the lab, Julia enjoys taking advantage of any and all good weather Pittsburgh offers — whether it’s on a run, at the pickleball courts, or on her yoga mat.
Ashka Patel
Ashka is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, pursuing a major in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. Her research interests are in bacteria and other microorganisms. Originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia; Ashka loves spending time with her family. She enjoys baking in her free time; macaroons and cheesecake being her favorite creations.
